Brazil didn’t look that great in their first two World Cup matches, but they finally got things going in their 2-0 win over Serbia that clinched first place in Group E. Brazil has a number of high profile players on their squad led by Neymar, while Mexico’s best player might very well be their goal keeper Guillermo Ochoa. Brazil scored five goals in the group stage, but Neymar scored just once. Neymar did look better in the win over Serbia and perhaps the game against Mexico will be his breakout in this year’s World Cup.

Mexico looked really good in their first two matches and really bad in their last match. They beat Germany 1-0 and they got past South Korea 2-1, but they were routed 3-0 by Sweden in their last match. Mexico was fortunate to get to the Round of 16 because Germany lost to South Korea. I think you have to reconsider a little bit what Mexico did in the group stage simply because Germany wasn’t that good. The win over Germany definitely doesn’t look nearly as good now as it did a week ago.

What we know about Brazil is that they have a number of players who can score and what we know about Mexico is that their main strength is their counter attack. There is a good chance this game could turn into a high scoring contest with both teams getting numerous chances. Brazil has Neymar, Cotinho, Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino, while Mexico has Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and Carlos Vela.

Key Stats

Brazil and Mexico have a long history of playing against each other and it has been a series that has favored Brazil. They have won 23 games, lost 10, while the teams have played to seven draws. The last three meaningful matches had Brazil winning twice by scores of 2-0, while the other match was a scoreless draw.

Brazil vs. Mexico Free Picks

As I said earlier, I think you have to reevaluate what Mexico has done in the World Cup simply because Germany was not as good as expected. Mexico really looks to be in over their head in this match. Mexico is not a good defensive team and I expect Brazil to get numerous chances in this contest. The only way that Mexico can stay in this game is if Ochoa has a fantastic game. I just can’t see him saving Mexico in this contest, so I will lay the price and take Brazil. I also think that Mexico should get a few chances on the counter attack and that means the game will go over the total. I will take Brazil and the game over the total.
