BETCRIS World Cup Colombia vs England

England is a slight favorite against Colombia in a Round of 16 match on Tuesday that can be seen on FOX. Colombia was able to win Group G thanks to wins in their last two matches, while England finished second in Group H after a loss to Belgium in their final group match.

The big question that hovers over this match is whether Colombia’s star player James Rodriguez will play. He aggravated a calf injury in the win over Senegal on Thursday. Let’s look at the match between Colombia and England and World Cup picks.

Colombia was able to win Group G and make it to the Round of 16, but they may not have star midfielder James Rodriguez and Colombia is simply a different team without Rodriguez. Colombia’s head coach Jose Pekerman said he is concerned. "I am very worried," Pekerman said to the media, "The situation is tough for the team; it is not an easy situation." Rodriguez did not start against Japan because of the injury and it appeared that he aggravated the injury against Senegal. Pekerman said the team would wait to see results of medical tests to see if Rodriguez can play on Tuesday. Rodriguez is a key player, as he won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup. Colombia did very little without Rodriguez against Senegal and it wasn’t until a late header by Yerry Mina that they got the win.

England had their chance to win Group H but they decided to rest players for the match against Belgium and they lost 1-0. One player who was not happy at being held out was Harry Kane who is currently leading the race for the Golden Boot with five goals. Because of that loss they finished second in the group and get Colombia instead of a likely easier opponent in Japan. The good news for England is that if they get past Colombia they would have an easier path, as they would get the winner of Sweden and Switzerland instead of Brazil assuming that Brazil beats Mexico.

Key Stats

Colombia is 2-1 with two draws in their last five matches, with three of the five going under the total. England is 4-1 in their last five matches, with three of the five going over the total.

Colombia vs. England Free Picks

There is no question that England would have preferred to be playing Japan instead of Colombia, but England might get a major break if Rodriguez doesn’t play. Even if he does play, it is hard to see how he is going to be at full strength for this match. And we have seen a completely different Colombia team when Rodriguez is not on the pitch. England has the best scorer in this match in Harry Kane who scored five goals in the group stage and has the lead for the Golden Boot. The problem for England is that they don’t have many other players who provide offense. They are a lot like Portugal in that they rely on a single player to carry the scoring. The great news for England is that Kane is firing on all cylinders and looks like he could carry England a long way. I don’t think Rodriguez will be a factor even if he does play, so I will take England to win this contest.
