Senegal had their chance to take control of Group H but they let a win get away against Japan and now they are faced with getting a result against a good Colombia team. “We must acknowledge that we didn’t see a great Senegalese performance in comparison to the match against Poland.” Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse said to the media, “We were not very good frankly, and Japan were the better team, I have to admit that.”

Cisse said that while Sadio Mane has played okay, he needs more from one of his best players. “A player like Sadio Mane is a player with a lot of expectations and he is one of the players under the spotlight,” Cisse said. “He can do better, but today he was better than against Poland and he needs to do better against Colombia.”

Colombia was surprised by Japan in their opener, but they bounced back with a strong effort to rout Poland by a score of 3-0. Colombia looked like the team they were expected to be before the World Cup began. They got goals from Yerry Mina, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado and James Rodriguez had two assists. “We were playing with the pressure of having to win – there was no room for any mistakes,” said manager Jose Pekerman. “We shouldered that responsibility fully but with creative football. We managed to impose this quality, this type of football that we have.”

The concern for Colombia is in goal, as David Ospina struggled at times this season for Arsenal. He wasn’t tested against Portugal, but he should face a lot of pressure from a Senegal team that can score.

Key Stats

These teams met in a friendly in 2014 and they played to a 2-2 draw. It could be another high scoring match between the teams on Thursday.

Senegal vs. Colombia Free Picks

This could be one of the most entertaining matches on Thursday, as both teams need a result. Colombia can’t afford to just sit back and play for a draw because a draw is not good enough. Senegal could play a style that is safe, but that is just not who they are. They look to score and they rarely sit back and play defense. Colombia should be able to take advantage of Senegal’s defense and get multiple scoring chances. Senegal should also get plenty of chances of their own. I think two plays are worth considering in this match. Colombia is simply the better team and I think they will find a way to get this win. I also think that this game could turn into a wide-open affair with both teams getting a lot of chances, so I will play the game over the total.
