It is no surprise that Brazil has made it this far in the World Cup. They entered as a prohibitive favorite to win the whole thing and nothing has served to change that perception with punters so far. Belgium also had high expectations and was a betting favorite to win it all. The one thing that separates Brazil and Belgium is history.
Brazil has it in spades as the most successful nation in World Cup history. Canarinho has a total of five championships. The most of any country. In Brazil winning World Cup championships is considered a birth right. Belgium has a solid history. But not one comprised of championships.

Brazil Takes Group E
While it was not pretty Brazil did win a sluggish Group E. The opening for Canarinho was less than awe inspiring when they played outgunned Switzerland to a 1-1 draw. In their next match against Costa Rica, Canarinho was in a scoreless draw until extra time when they got two late goals to escape with a win. The third and final match for Group E was Brazil’s best as they took out Serbia 2-0.
Belgium Explodes to Win Group G
Belgium was the most exciting team to watch in Group action with their high octane and skilled scoring ability. In their opener the Red Devils scored a 3-0 win over Panama with Romelu Lukaku scoring two goals to set the tone for best offensive squad at Russia. In their second game Belgium bombed out Tunisia 5-2. Lukaku had two more goals with Eden Hazard scoring twice. Against the other offensive juggernaut, England, in their Group G finale the Red Devils won a tight 1-0 affair to clinch the group championship.
Tite is Right
Brazil was floundering during its qualification process to the point that it was in danger of missing the tournament all together. Much of Brazil’s failures as a World Cup overlay the past two tournaments was based on their horrible leadership and tactics. Dunga was a certifiable imbecile that had no ability to pull team or tactics together. Brazil’s inconsistent play was reflective of his maddening ways. At the depths of their qualifying slump Brazil finally cut ties with the man most responsible for their ineptitude.
Enter Tite. From the moment he took over as manager Tite has overseen the most dramatic improvement of any team in this event. Brazil is tactically balanced with responsible defense yet also with freedom for its top stars such as Neymar. Once again Canarinho is playing with flair and confidence. Opponents fear them like never before.
The Golden Age?
Belgium considers this the Golden Age of their football program. It has never been more talented or deeper. Their World Cup window is wide open. Kevin De Bruyne epitomizes the Red Devils as a complete player that can do it all. De Bruyne is both a dangerous playmaker and skilled defender. He has vision that few can match. This is considered Belgium last best chance to win the title.
Players to Watch
Romeo Lukaku has four goals so far in the tournament for Belgium. For Brazil the dynamic tandem of Phillipe Coutinho and Neymar have two goals each. When focused Neymar could be as impactful and anyone in the world.
Brazil vs. Belgium Free Picks
The one worry about Belgium was potentially weak defense and tactics. This is where Tite comes into play. Brazil won’t be on the short end of tactics. Nor on pure ability and skill. And Canarinho has the superior defense. This is where the greatness of Brazil should show. Once again Belgium will fail to reach the pinnacle.
