BETCRIS World Cup Sweden vs England

Until 2018 England was one of the great unfulfilled promises and frustrating overlays that could be found in any sport. Every four years their fanatical fanbase would expect a championship. Punters would wager huge amounts expecting glory. And every four years it would be turned into frustration for both the team and the gamblers who had their bankrolls busted.

But this year the story has been flipped. England entered World Cup play as young and inexperienced. Nothing was really expected from them. And yet they have caught fire to become one of the top surprises in the tournament. Now they face solid but unspectacular Sweden. The winner will move on to the semifinal.

England Runner Up in Group G

This has been a great World Cup run by England. But there have been some extremely close calls. In their opener the Three Lions needed a goal by Harry Kane in extra time to beat Tunisia 2-1. In their next match England decimated Panama 6-1 as Kane had a spectacular hat trick performance. Against Belgium for the Group G championship England was frustrated and lost 1-0. Still it was a fine Group G performance that catapulted the Three Lions into the knockout stage.

Sweden Takes Group F

Sweden opened with a workmanlike 1-0 win over South Korea. Their defensive identity was on full display in the win. That was followed by a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Germany in their second match. The Blue Yellow allowed a Goal by Toni Kroos in extra time for the loss. Yet the Swedes showed tremendous character in recovering to defeat Mexico 3-0 for the Group F title while showing the heart of a champion.

High Wire Acts for Round of 16

Sweden faced a very similar opponent in the knockout round against Switzerland. The two defensive and structured teams had a hard fought match that Sweden eventually took 1-0.

England had among the most thrilling matches of the Round of 15. Against resurgent Colombia the Three Lions played to a 1-1 draw. They prevailed in penalties 4-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Impact Managers

Many believed that Sweden was done for when Zlatan Ibrahimovic left the team after the 2014 World Cup. The star was so dominant that Sweden’s tactics and style all revolved around him. But where others saw disaster manager Janne Andersson saw opportunity. Ibrahimovic may have been mega talented but the dressing room was not exactly harmonious with happy teammates. Andersson created a new team culture in which everyone was valued and structure was installed. Sweden became a stout defensive team.

England manager Gareth Southgate has emerged as one of the brilliant new minds in the game. Like Andersson he took over a team ridden with dissention. Southgate showed tremendous vision with his radical remake of the Three Lions. He decided to go with young players that had speed and to employ attack style tactics. It has been a thrill for all concerned.

King Harry

England’s Harry Kane has emerged as one of the world’s premier strikers. He has a total of five goals so far in the tournament. That leads all players. Kane proved to be a tremendous clutch player during qualifying and has shown that trait again at the World Cup. He is mature far beyond his 24 years and team captain as a result.

Sweden vs. England Free Picks

Kane is the difference in this match. He brings firepower that Sweden just can’t match. Beyond that the Three Lions have the look of a team of destiny.
