On March 17th the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee will share the 68 teams competing for this year’s college basketball championship. Also known as “Selection Sunday” this is the day that the brackets positions for the tournament are released to the public. The difference between March Madness and the rest of the college basketball season is that a loss in the tournament results in elimination. Round after round teams will be sent home as they work their way through the Sweet 16, Elite 8 and then the Final 4 where the championship matchup will be decided.
The teams currently leading the league include Virginia, Duke, Tennessee and Gonzaga. As we have seen in the past being on top does not guarantee a win. In fact upsets are a huge part of the tournament and the potential outcome. Purdue is a prime example of how a team can drop spots as their recent 3 game losing streak has shifted them from 3rd to 6th in the AP Polls. Michigan State on the other hand has gone from 11th to 3rd in the polls.
On March 19th the First Four games will reveal the final teams that will fill the open slots on the NCAA Tournament Bracket. Follow along closely to see where your team ranks once the dust has settled. Expect more movement in the AP Polls over the next weeks as the top 16 seeds click into place. It’ll be interesting to see where the top 10 teams rank a week from now.
Betting on college basketball is always entertaining but betting on the NCAA Tournament takes the game to a whole new level.
