Belmont Stakes Betting: Right now, the horse with the longest odds to win the Belmont Stakes is Gronkowski. The horse grew up in Kentucky, but he was sold to a British consortium last year and he started his racing career in the United Kingdom.
Gronkowski has been fantastic. He has been one of the top horses in Europe this year, and he has won his last four races. His win at the Burradon Stakes qualified him for the Kentucky Derby, but the horse had to pull out of the race at the last minute.
A couple weeks before the Derby, Gronkowski was diagnosed with a fever. He was subsequently scratched from the race, so he has yet to make his debut in America. The horse is hoping he can live up to his namesake and win.
The Belmont Stakes will go to post on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 6:37 p.m. ET at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Catch the Belmont Stakes live on NBC.

Gronkowski is the most international horse at the Belmont Stakes. His sire is Lonhro. Lonhro was the 2004 Australian Horse of the Year and was one of the best turf horses on the continent in the 2000s. His dam is Four Sugars.
In the aftermath of Gronkowski not running in the Kentucky Derby, the owners decided to switch trainers. Previously, he was under the care of Jeremy Noseda, but after he fell ill the ownership group decided to make Chad Brown his trainer. Brown won the 2016 Eclipse Award as the top horse racing trainer in North America. He scored his first Triple Crown victory last year when Cloud Computing won the Preakness Stakes.
Jamie Spencer is likely to be Gronkowski’s jockey for the race. Spencer has been riding the horse for much of the year, and it looks unlikely that Brown will change things up on this end.
Why Gronkowski Will Win the Belmont Stakes
Gronkowski has had some time to get acclimated to the United States. Unlike other European horses that only come stateside a couple weeks prior to a big race, Gronkowski has been on American soil for nearly two months. He has also had some time to adjust to dirt, a surface he has not raced on.
Why Gronkowski Won't Win the Belmont Stakes
Not racing on dirt prior to this event is a big red flag. Most turf horses have trouble adjusting, even if they train on the surface prior to a race.
Additionally, the competition that Gronkowski faced in Europe doesn’t compare to what he will see in the States. He hasn’t faced a horse as good as Hofburg, much less Justify.
The Final Verdict
It would be nice if the closing odds on Gronkowski are 69-1, but they are likely to come down before post time. He is worth a flyer at anything over 40-1 though. There is a chance he can win this race, as he is the freshest horse in the field and has looked good in training.
