Florida -7 vs Miami (FL) in Orlando, FL

The Gators’ depth has taken a hit this summer as five Class of 2019 recruits have already left the program for one reason or another, but there is still plenty of reason to be optimistic with regards to Florida. The secondary is one of the best units in the country, and although the depth is thin, that shouldn’t be an issue in the first game of the season.

Miami could be a good team by the end of the year, but the Hurricanes will need time to gel. Manny Diaz brought in a ton of transfers this offseason, so a Week 0 game is not the best thing in the world for this team.

Cincinnati -3.5 vs UCLA

Chip Kelly’s return to the college football world got off to a rocky start. The Bruins went just 3-9 in 2018, but they did look better at the end of the season and knocked off California and USC, and they nearly beat both Stanford and Arizona State too.

Cincinnati defeated UCLA in the Rose Bowl last year, and the Bearcats are considered one of the best mid-majors in the country after going 11-2 last season. However, I think they are a prime Week 1 upset pick.

Desmond Ridder had pretty impressive numbers for a freshman quarterback, and he is likely to regress in some areas. His passing numbers on third-and-long were incredible, and those are very unlikely to be sustainable. Both of these teams should have good seasons, but I think UCLA has a chance to have the best single-season turnaround in 2019.

Football Sports Betting

Stanford -6.5 vs Northwestern

Somehow, Northwestern won the Big Ten West last season. The Wildcats would have been the most unlikely Power Five conference division winner if it wasn’t for Pittsburgh, as this team just wasn’t that good. Northwestern went 8-1 in Big Ten play, but they didn’t beat anyone on their schedule by more than 14 points and lost home games to Duke and Akron.

The Wildcats are likely to regress and so is Stanford. The Cardinal do have a solid quarterback in KJ Costello, but they only have two other returning starters on offense. That is not a recipe for success, especially when many of those projected starters are underclassmen.

Florida State -4 vs Boise State in Jacksonville, FL

Writers saying that Willie Taggart is on the hot seat after one year on the job have betrayed their lack of knowledge regarding Florida State. The Seminoles will give Taggart at least three seasons barring scandal, as they simply don’t have the finances to afford a $17 million buyout at this point.

The key for Florida State is the offensive line. The Seminoles had one of the worst offensive lines in college football last year, and it led to the offense posting awful numbers. Not even star running back Cam Akers could get going, and although the OL has improved, it still isn’t great.

There is great value in Boise State in the opener, although this will be a very one-sided crowd for a neutral site game. The Broncos lost Brett Rypien, but they have rarely had quarterback issues over the last two decades, and they have one of the best secondaries in the country. That, coupled with Florida State’s offensive line woes, will keep the Seminoles from scoring too much even with new OC Kendal Briles calling the shots.

Auburn -3 vs Oregon in Arlington, TX

This is a rematch of the 2011 National Championship Game, and Oregon is hoping for a different result. The Ducks have one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Justin Herbert, while Auburn will be starting a freshman after Jarrett Stidham went pro and Malik Willis transferred.

The massive disparity at quarterback will be the key to an Oregon victory here. Herbert will put up some nice numbers and end the recent run of disappointing performances from the Pac 12 when playing SEC teams.
