Preakness Stakes Odds - One of the factors that many horse handicappers consider for the Preakness Stakes is the past experience of a horse leading up to the event. Kentucky Derby winner Justify had the distinction of not running as a two-year-old. Bravazo is a horse that could not be more opposite. Bravazo has a lot of experience and a record of success that makes the colt a potentially compelling choice for the Preakness Stakes. Under the tutelage of famed trainer D. Wayne Lucas, the horse will be well prepared.
The Preakness Stakes will go to post on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 6:20 p.m. ET at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Catch the Preakness States live on NBC.

Bravazo finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby. The colt has had a mixture of success and disappointment to make for a rather inconsistent record in his career. Prior to the Kentucky Derby Bravazo finished a very disappointing eighth in the Louisiana Derby. This came after back to back wins that included an impressive triumph in the Grade Two Risen Star. One of the races that brought a great deal of attention to Bravazo was his second place run in the Breeders Futurity last fall. Bravazo went off as a 21-1 choice for the win in the Risen Star.
Bravazo’s trainer D. Wayne Lucas is a US Racing Hall of Fame inductee. At the age of 82 he has seen at done it all. Lucas has won four Kentucky Derby’s and has posted six wins at the Preakness Stakes. He is a four-time Eclipse Award winner as outstanding trainer.
Jockey Luis Contreras was the leading rider at Woodbine in 2012 and 2013. He is celebrated as one of the top jockeys in Canada.
Why Bravazo Will Win the Preakness Stakes
Bravazo has shown the ability to run with the best. His sixth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby looks better by the minute. The Derby had its deepest and most even field in years and Bravazo held his own in the mud and slop of rainy Churchill Downs. To be able to finish with respect in a field so deep and with the added element of a sloppy track bodes speaks well of Bravazo.
Why Bravazo Won't Win the Preakness Stakes
Bravazo has simply been too inconsistent to be able to be relied upon at the Preakness Stakes. What is most concerning is that the Preakness will feature a multitude of horses that are well rested after skipping the Kentucky Derby. And these will be horses that are fully qualified. This year’s Triple Crown season is deep and talented. Bravazo already has the wear and tear of nine career races.
The Final Verdict
Lucas loves Pimlico and the Preakness Stakes. He says it’s a lot more enjoyable and with less pressure than the Kentucky Derby. Look for Bravazo to finish in the money at the Preakness!
