The Bundesliga is Germany's primary football competition. The league was founded in 1963.

The Bundesliga is composed of two divisions: the 1. Bundesliga (although it is rarely referred to with the First prefix) and below that, the 2. Bundesliga (Second Bundesliga) which has been the second professional division of German football. It is contested by 18 teams.

The team to have won the most championships in the league is the Bayern Munich, currently holding 28 titles and is also the current champion.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams get to play in the group phase of the UEFA Champions League. The Bundesliga season runs from August through May, with most games being played on Saturday and Sunday. Which team will be champion this year? Bet your favorite with Betcris.

German Bundesliga Matchday 34 Preview

By Jonathan Willis

Bayern Munich claimed their eighth straight German Bundesliga title two weeks ago, and they have a chance to win a treble this season. They will square off against Bayer Leverkusen in the Olympiastadion for the DFB Pokal Cup on July 4. They are one of the eight teams that will be taking part in the short Champions League in Lisbon this August.

They have the longest winning streak in major European football coming into the final day of the German football season with 15 straight victories and they are -130 favorites to make it 16 straight wins per the Bundesliga betting odds.

The other top team in Germany has nothing to play for coming into the final week of the season. Borussia Dortmund locked up another second-place finish last week with a 2-0 road win over Red Bull Leipzig, and this will be their fifth runner-up performance in the last eight seasons.

They set their single-season scoring record with their 84th goal last week against Leipzig, and there could be fireworks in their finale against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. There is an average of 3.1 goals in each Hoffenheim match, so the oddsmakers have set the total for this game at 3.5 goals.

The real excitement will be over German football’s last Champions League spot though. Borussia Monchengladbach has a two-point lead over rival Bayer Leverkusen for fourth place in the German Bundesliga, and that makes them sizable favorites to qualify for Europe’s premier competition next season.

Monchengladbach is the second-biggest favorites of the week. They host mid-table Hertha Berlin, and any result will likely be good enough to earn them the fourth place as they have a +25 goal differential compared to a +16 goal differential for Leverkusen.

However, Leverkusen is likely to take full advantage if Monchengladbach's stumble. They are the biggest favorites of the week per the soccer betting odds, as they are -385 on the three-way betting line at home against FSV Mainz. The visitors have allowed a whopping 64 goals this season, but they have conceded just four goals since getting shredded by Red Bull Leipzig last month.

Speaking of Red Bull Leipzig, although they are just three points ahead of Leverkusen, there is no chance they are caught by that club given the massive disparity in goal differential.

They are +43 in that metric, so they will win any tiebreaker with the two teams below them in the table. This club will close out the season on the road against 15th place Augsburg, but they are happy to be away from home. They have outscored their opponents 11-2 in three road victories since the restart, while they were a head-scratching 0-4-1 at home.

At the other end of the table, there is a battle to determine which team will be relegated alongside last-place Paderborn. Fortuna Dusseldorf currently holds a two-point lead over Werder Bremen headed into the final matchday of the German football season, and they are four goals ahead in goal differential. That puts Bremen in a must-win situation entering their game against subpar FC Koln, and they are odds-on favorites per the Bundesliga betting odds.

Meanwhile, Dusseldorf must travel to the capital to take on FC Union Berlin. They were able to knock off Union Berlin 2-1 just before Christmas thanks to an extra-time goal from Erik Thommy, and they have secured a result in nine of their last 11 matches to potentially salvage their season.

Whichever team finishes in 16th place will take on either FC Heidenheim or Hamburger SV in a home and home in early July for the final spot in the 2020-21 Bundesliga.
