Belmont Stakes

Date: Saturday, June 9

Location: Belmont Park, Elmont, New York

Race Distance: 1.5 Miles

Television Network: NBC

Triple Crown Betting Odds: The Belmont Stakes takes place every year in the month of June. The race is known as “The Run for the Carnations “or “The Test of the Champion” and it is also The Third Jewel of the Triple Crown. It’s set to run 5 weeks after the first leg which is the Kentucky Derby and 3 weeks after the second leg, the Preakness Stakes. The race consists of only 3-year old thoroughbreds with a handful of them chasing the Triple Crown.  If a horse and rider is able to win the first and second legs this is their final hurdle to true victory.

This year’s Belmont Stakes qualifying horses will run on Saturday June 9th at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. The purse at Belmont is $1.5m with the winner collecting $800k. The fastest horse to run at the Belmont Stakes just happens to be the very same horse with records at legs 1 & 2 of the Triple Crown. In 1973 Secretariat set a record of 2:24 and the 2017 winner Tapwrit did it in 2:30.02.

The horse to win the Belmont stakes with the greatest odds so far was Sarava in 2002. Sarava entered the race with odds at 70.25 and pulled off a win as one would say “Against all odds”. One can’t expect a horse to run the oval track alone. Each horse is accompanied by a rider or jockey who will, lead him to the finish line. The horse and jockey are usually put together and run many races before visiting a Triple Crown race.

The Belmont Stakes was inaugurated in 1867 making it the oldest of the Triple Crown set. The races are run at Belmont Park race course in Elmont, NY. On June 9th qualifying horses will participate in the 150th running of the Belmont Stakes, The Third Leg of the Triple Crown.

2018 Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes is the last race of horse racing’s Triple Crown and arguably the toughest to win. The race is a mile and a half at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and sometimes it will have a Triple Crown on the line. The 2018 race takes place on Saturday, June 9 and it will feature Justify going for the Triple Crown. The horse is trained by Bob Baffert who trained the last Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah in 2015. Justify is expected to go off as the odds-on favorite to win the 2018 Belmont Stakes

The 2018 Belmont Stakes will feature a horse going for the Triple Crown, as Justify won the 2018 Kentucky Derby and the 2018 Preakness Stakes. He will be going against a number of familiar foes from the two races and also a few new shooters who didn’t race in either race. Horses who have raced in either the Derby or Preakness that are expected to challenge Justify in the Belmont are Bravazo who finished second in the Preakness, Tenfold, who was third in the Preakness, Vino Rosso, Solomini, Hofburg, Free Drop Billy and My Boy Jack who ran in the Derby and possibly Audible who also ran in the Derby. The new shooters are expected to be Peter Pan Stakes winner Blended Citizen and runner-up Core Beliefs and Gronkowski who was scratched from the Derby.
