Belmont Stakes Odds - In a few weeks, Justify will attempt to be the 13th horse to win the Triple Crown. Justify was the favorite coming into both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, and it’s no surprise that he’s the favorite to win the Belmont Stakes after winning both of those races. A win would net his owners a considerable windfall and make him one of the greatest horses ever with six straight wins to start his career.
The Belmont Stakes will go to post on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 6:37 p.m. ET at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Catch the Belmont Stakes live on NBC.

Justify was sired by Scat Daddy and his dam is Stage Magic. Scat Daddy was a solid racer during his career, winning the Champagne Stakes and the Florida Derby. His career as a sire was more prolific though, and he has already sired 69 stakes winners. Justify is on pace to be his most successful progeny yet.
His trainer is the illustrious Bob Baffert. Baffert is aiming to become just the second trainer to have two horses win the Triple Crown after American Pharoah accomplished the feat in 2015. He has had five Kentucky Derby winner and seven Preakness Stakes winners, but only two of his horses have won the Belmont Stakes.
Justify will be jockeyed by Mike Smith. Smith has been his jockey for all five of his previous races and has rode Justify into the Winner’s Circle all five times.
Why Justify Will Win the Belmont Stakes
Justify lived up to the hype prior to the Kentucky Derby. He had the best speed numbers by a mile, and he has proven himself faster than any of the other horses in the first two legs of the Triple Crown. It’s hard to doubt his chances when he has yet to lose and has beaten most of the horses in the field already.
The horse has also proven that he can win no matter what the conditions. He was blazing fast running in good weather out in California, and he was able to win in the mud in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness.
Why Justfiy Won't Win the Belmont Stakes
There have been 23 horses that have won the first two legs of the Triple Crown, only to come up short at Belmont. Prior to American Pharoah finally completing the Triple Crown in 2015, we had seen horses that won both the Derby and the Preakness lose 13 straight times here. That’s a lot of recent history to be up against.
Also, Justify looked like he might be running out of gas late in the Preakness Stakes. He only won that race by a ½ length, and he will certainly be running against horses that have had the more traditional amount of time to rest and recuperate.
The Final Verdict
Justify is certainly the favorite, and he will likely close as an even bigger favorite as money pours in on him. However, I’ll be staying away. His Preakness Stakes performance was impressive, but there is reason to doubt his ability to go 1.5 miles on short rest.
