Belmont Stakes Betting: It took a long time for Blended Citizen to find his stride. This horse was unable to hit the board in any of his first three starts, but his fortune turned shortly after he switched surfaces.
He proved to be a much better turf horse than a dirt horse, crushing the field in his first race on turf. Blended Citizen then raced well in two listed stakes races before winning the Jeff Ruby Steaks. There, he posted a 109 speed rating in beating Pony Up at the line.
The horse didn’t prove he could run well on dirt until earlier in the month. At the Peter Pan Stakes, he finally found success on the surface. He scored a comfortable victory that led to him being entered into the Belmont Stakes.
The Belmont Stakes will go to post on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 6:37 p.m. ET at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Catch the Belmont Stakes live on NBC.

2002 Kentucky Derby runner-up Proud Citizen is the sire for Blended Citizen. Proud Citizen’s two most successful progeny thus far have been fillies. Proud Spell and Believe You Can both won the Kentucky Oaks, but the boys haven’t raced as well. Blended Citizen’s dam is Langara Lass.
The trainer for Blended Citizen is Doug O’Neill. O’Neill’s most two successful horses thus far have been I’ll Have Another and Nyquist. However, O’Neill has a somewhat checkered history as a trainer and has violated medication rules multiple times. Questions about his methods led Belmont Park to take the unusual step of sequestering I’ll Have Another and the other horses at the 2012 Belmont Stakes.
Kyle Frey will be on Blended Citizen for this race. Frey has not had a lot of success over his career, leading just four horses to victories in graded stakes.
Why Blended Citizen Will Win the Belmont Stakes
The speed numbers for this horse are rather impressive. Posting numbers of 109 and 112 is worth taking note of, no matter what surface you run on. He finally proved that he can run well on dirt too, which makes him an intriguing option.
Additionally, he has been at Belmont Park for some time now and should be comfortable here. His last race, the Peter Pan Stakes, took place on this racetrack and he won soundly.
Why Blended Citizen Won't Win the Belmont Stakes
This horse is trending in the right direction, but he did not face the cream of the crop at the Peter Pan Stakes. The race was held just one week after the Kentucky Derby, so he faced a relatively weak field there.
He has yet to run two good races on dirt either. His next best finish on dirt was fifth place, so that run at the Peter Pan may have been just good timing or sheer luck.
The Final Verdict
There is enough to like here to back Blended Citizen at this price. The speed numbers are great, and that makes him a contender. You could do a lot worse at 14-1.
