Players to Watch

Croatia has some talented played led by Modric and Rakitic. Those two are joined by a couple of other top players in Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic.

The Coach

Zlato Dalic replaced Ante Cacic as head coach after Croatia played to a 1-1 draw against Finland in qualifying. Dalic led Al-Ain to the AFC Champions League final last year. Dalic led Croatia to a win in Ukraine and to the playoff win over Greece. Modric said on the FIFA website that the team needs to make Dalic the full-time manager. "It would be crazy if Dalic wasn't the coach for the World Cup," Modric said, "He has done a phenomenal job.”

Croatia World Cup History

Croatia has played 16 previous World Cup matches and won seven and lost seven, with two draws. They have scored 21 goals for an average of 1.3 goals per game. Croatia first played in the World Cup in 1998 and made it all the way to the semifinals before losing 2-1 to eventual champion France. Croatia did win the third place game against Netherlands. The most recent efforts for Croatia have not been nearly as good. They didn’t make it out of the group stage in 2002, 2006 or in 2014 and in 2010 they didn’t even qualify.

Croatia 2018 World Cup Predictions

Croatia will be an interesting team to watch at the 2018 World Cup. They have plenty of experienced players who can handle the big stage and it now appears they have a coach in Dalic who can get the most out of the players. Croatia seems poised to get out of the group stage and be a serious darkhorse contender to make it the quarterfinals.
