The 2016-2017 bowl season heats up this week with a number of good matchups including 16th-ranked West Virginia facing Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl. There are a number of Top 25 teams in action over the next week as some of the better matchups start to appear on the schedule. Let’s look at the games from December 22nd through the 28th, bowl odds at BetCris and bowl picks.
Bet on Bowl games at BetCris
Thursday, December 22
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl – Idaho vs. Colorado State (ESPN)
The Vandals finished with a better record than the Rams but Colorado State is listed as a 13-point favorite. The home crowd advantage will be with the Vandals but their defense probably can’t hold down the Rams in this contest so laying the points is the way to go.
Friday, December 23
Popeyes Bahamas Bowl - Eastern Michigan vs. Old Dominion (ESPN)
The Monarchs are listed as a 4-point favorite in this contest. This looks like a toss-up game with Eastern Michigan coming in at 7-5 while ODU is 9-3.
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl – Louisiana Tech vs. #25 Navy (ESPN)
The Midshipmen are ranked but this not the same Navy team that looked great earlier this season. Navy doesn’t have their starting quarterback or starting running back and Louisiana Tech is listed as a 5.5-point favorite. This should be a high scoring game that goes over the total.
Dollar General Bowl – Ohio vs. Troy (ESPN)
The Trojans are listed as 4-point favorites in this contest. The Bobcats are 8-5 while the Trojans are 9-3. Taking the points is the pick in this one.
Saturday, December 24
Hawaii Bowl – Hawaii vs. Middle Tennessee (ESPN)
The Blue Raiders are favored in this game even though the game is in Hawaii. The Blue Raiders have the far superior offense and this game could easily turn into a rout. I will lay the points with Middle Tennessee.
Monday, December 26
St. Petersburg Bowl – Miami Ohio vs. Mississippi State (ESPN)
The Bulldogs are 14-point favorites in this contest. That seems like a high number as Miami was 6-6 this season while Mississippi State was 5-7. I will take the points in this one.
Quick Lane Bowl – Maryland vs. Boston College (ESPN)
A pair of 6-6 teams meet in this game with Maryland listed as a 1-point favorite. This looks like a game to pass on.
Camping World Independence Bowl – NC State vs. Vanderbilt (ESPN 2)
The Wolfpack are 4.5-point favorites in another matchup between 6-6 teams. I will take the points with the Commodores.
Tuesday, December 27
Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl - Army vs. North Texas (ESPN)
The Black Knights are 10-point favorites in this contest. Army will have to find a way to focus coming off their biggest win in over a decade as they beat Navy. I will take the points with North Texas.
Military Bowl - #24 Temple vs. Wake Forest (ESPN)
The Owls are 11.5-point favorites in this game against Wake Forest. It is hard to see the Demon Deacons making this game competitive so I will lay the points.
National Funding Holiday Bowl – Minnesota vs. Washington State (ESPN)
The Cougars are big favorites against the Gophers who finally decided to actually play in this game. I will lay the points and take Washington State.
Motel 6 Cactus Bowl – Boise State vs. Baylor (ESPN)
The Broncos are 7.5-point favorites against the Bears in this contest. Boise State is 10-2 while Baylor is 6-6. I will lay the points and take Boise State.
Wednesday, December 28
New Era Pinstripe Bowl - #23 Pittsburgh vs. Northwestern (ESPN)
The Panthers are just 5.5-point favorites even though they are a ranked team with a better record as they went 8-4 while Northwestern was 6-6. I will take the Panthers in this one.
Russell Athletic Bowl - #16 West Virginia vs. Miami (ESPN)
The Mountaineers are ranked but yet they are getting 3 points in this game against Miami. The oddsmakers seem to know something here so I will take Miami.
Foster Farms Bowl – Indiana vs. #19 Utah (FOX)
The Utes are 7.5-point favorites against the Hoosiers. Indiana went 6-6 this season while Utah was 8-4. I will take this game under.
Advocare V100 Texas Bowl – Texas A&M vs. Kansas State (ESPN)
The Aggies are listed as 2-point favorites against the Wildcats. I will take the points with Kansas State in this game.
