Liverpool are the reigning Champions League title holders, but the Reds aren’t the favorite to win this year’s Champions League according to the Champions League betting odds. Instead that honor belongs to Liverpool’s Premier League rival Manchester City. The Citizens were built to win the Champions League, but they have been sent crashing out of the competition by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the last two seasons. City are hoping the third time is a charm, and 31 other teams are out to stop them.

City are out to win their first-ever Champions League title, but the Aymeric Laporte injury has led to major problems in their back line. The Citizens were stunned by recently promoted Norwich City in mid-September, and the center back pairing of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi did not inspire much confidence. Fortunately, City are in a manageable group where their biggest competition is Italy’s Atalanta.
Barcelona are likely to be without Lionel Messi for a little while longer, but the Blaugrana are the second-favorite to win the Champions League. They last raised the trophy five years ago, besting Juventus in Berlin for the club’s fifth Champions League title.
Liverpool and Real Madrid are the two other teams with Champions League betting odds of less than 10-1. The Reds had a miraculous run to the title last season, and they are out to tie Inter Milan as the second-most successful club in competition history this year. However, they have a long way to go to catch Real Madrid, whose 13 Champions League titles dwarf the competition.

Past Champions League Winners
Real Madrid are the greatest team in the history of the Champions League. They won the first five Champions League titles ever contested, and they have won four of the last six competitions coming into this season. The club is a continual powerhouse that will always contest for the most prestigious club title in the world, and Real Madrid are one of a handful of clubs that can spend lavishly every offseason.
AC Milan have fallen on hard times. The club with the second-most Champions League titles has not qualified for this competition in six years, and they have fallen behind the rest of the major Italian clubs. They have more Champions League trophies than all other Serie A teams combined though, so it will take some time before another team from Italy has similar success.
The defending champions raised their sixth Champions League trophy last summer, and Liverpool would have likely won more titles in the 1980s if not for the Heysel Stadium disaster. It led to the club being banned from international football for six years, sending Liverpool into a financial tailspin right at the dawn of the Premier League age. Liverpool have now recovered though and ownership plans on contending for continental titles on an annual basis once more.
